How you can help

The High River District Health Care Foundation  exists to help enable our donors to have an impact on health care in our communities. We do this by prudently funding health care equipment, programs and education. We raise funds for these endeavors through a variety of campaigns and events. We also have various funds available so that you can specify how they want their donation  used.

Funds: The Foundation has established a variety of “funds” as a way to easily ensure that our donors wishes are followed. Some of the Funds that can be specified include: Greatest Need, Long Term Care, Cancer Clinic, Maternity-Obstetrics-Women’s Health, Spiritual Care, Palliative Care, Emergency Room and EMS

Every effort is made to ensure that our donors’ wishes are met.  However, we occasionally receive more contributions for an approved funding project than can be prudently expended on it.  When this happens, we direct the excess funds towards funding requests in similar fields of healthcare.  Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions about this policy.

Campaigns and Programs

The High River Maternity program prides itself on caring for each and every one of its patients, with the unique and dedicated support they deserve.

To further enhance the wonderful care offered at High River Maternity, the High River District Health Care Foundation has launched its next fundraising campaign, “Delivering a better experience…High River Maternity”.  This campaign will support a major renovation to the maternity unit at the High River Hospital.  This will see 2400 sq. ft. of existing footprint redeveloped into state of the art “Maternity Care Suites” created to help offer the very best maternity experience for women in the Foothills Community.

Do you have a Health Care Hero?

Perhaps it is a doctor who made a life-saving decision in the High River Hospital’s Emergency Department. Or maybe it is a compassionate health care aide who takes care of your parents on second floor or at Silver Willow DAL in Nanton. A Health Care Hero could be a nurse who helped welcome a precious new baby into this world. Or a home care nurse who visits your grandparents. Say a special thank you If a Health Care Hero has made a difference to you, this is your opportunity to make a difference to them. Here is how it works: Make a gift to nominate your own Health Care Hero and, if you would like, tell us what makes them so special to you. We will publicly recognize your hero and, as a memento of your appreciation, present them with a special Health Care Hero pin. Your donation will be directed to the area of your choice and have a lasting impact on local health care in High River and Nanton.

Annual Appeal

Every January we launch our Annual Appeal campaign to raise funds for where they are needed most. The Greatest Needs fund has been used in past to purchase vital medical equipment, make improvements to the Long Term Care facility and finance training and education programs for health care providers. In 2014 the Annual Appeal raised over $16,000

The High River District Health Care Foundation’s Cattle and Grain Round Up program recognizes the well established support for local health care by the farm and ranch families in High River, Nanton, Blackie and surrounding areas. The Cattle and Grain Round Up program allows for donations to be made in the form of cash, cattle or grain. We partner with the Cargill Blackie Elevator who will be happy to direct any grain donations, and with Southern Alberta Livestock Exchange who will process any donations of cattle. All cash donations will be handled directly through the Foundation. In 2014 the Cattle and Grain Round up raised over $40,000.

The Points of Light campaign happens every year around Christmas time. You can donate directly to the program or a light can be purchased in memory or honour of someone who holds a special place in your heart. Funds raised in the Points of Light campaign are split between Spiritual Care and Palliative Care. The 2016 campaign raised over $13,375.

Events and other ways to help

Annual Dinner and Auction

For the past 30 years the High River District Health Care Foundation’s annual Dinner and Auction has been a highlight on many peoples calendar. The evening has always featured a great meal, lots of fun and friends and some wonderful auction items. The 2017 edition will be on October 21st at the Highwood Memorial Centre with funds raised going to the Delivering a better experience campaign!

Memorial donations

to the High River District Health Care Foundation are a wonderful way to create  a lasting legacy in memory of your loved one.   Gifts can be designated to the area or program that is most fitting, or they can be directed to “Greatest Needs”.  Donations are accepted via mail, phone or online.

With the donor’s permission, and without disclosing financial information,  we will inform you who has donated in memory of  the deceased.  When the total donations accumulate to over $1,000, your loved one will be recognized on a donor recognition board located on the third floor of the High River Hospital.

The Foundation has a number of volunteer opportunities. Whether on the Dinner and Auction committee, helping with special events or as a Board member we need always need some help from people who are passionate about health care in the High River and Nanton area.
