Smile Cookie Week returns.
The High River Health Foundation is pleased to announce our partnership with High River Tim Hortons continues for another Smile Cookie Week.
In 2024, with the sale of smile cookies and donations we raised $16,000. The funds went to High River Maternity to support infants with jaundice at the High River Hospital, with the purchase of the ‘Bili Blanket’ allows these newborns (with jauntice) the opportunity to receive bilirubin phototherapy treatment while be snuggled by mom and dad. Prior to having this they would have to spend the majority of the time, other than feedings in a special bed unable to be cuddled.
We are raising funds this year, for a few different areas!!! Patient and Family Centred Care initiatives that serve children, families, and seniors.
Starting with the kids, as you know, coming to the hospital whether it be for a poke at the lab, an X-ray in Diagnostic Imaging or one of the many reasons that can bring a little one to the ER, it can sometimes be a scary and intimidating visit. To help alleviate the situation, we would like to utilize a portion of the funds to purchase distraction and reward type toys for the staff to hand out.
Let’s jump to our seniors, particularly the residents on Long Term Care. The Recreational Therapy team would like to access an annual subscription to an electronic platform called Lifeloop, it offers a range of recreational therapy content. Providing access to a wide range of engaging, cognitively stimulating, and emotionally supportive content that can help keep residents active, connected, and entertained. Items such as games, travel videos, worship materials, music, trivia, mindfulness exercises, family feud-style games, live webcam filming baby animals, and so much more. The content is regularly updated, which would be a significant advantage in keeping our programs fresh and engaging for our residents. Smile Cookie funds would support a year long subscription to the program and provide staff a great opportunity to see the benefit for our residents.
Our last idea, still in the work is for the families. The number of deliveries occurring at High River Maternity is reaching preflood and Covid numbers, making for a busy department. We know that delivering at our facility is a unique experience, with an amazing supportive care team and state of the art maternity suites. With the idea of celebrating those High River Maternity families we are suggesting that a portion of Smile Cookie funds be used to give each family a keepsake to take home.
